Aquatic Litter is a major cross-border issue with environmental, social, and economic implications. The modern way of life that leads to uncontrolled consumption, as well as the long-term improper management of waste, makes aquatic litter one of the major environmental issues in the world. In order to mitigate its impact, it is imperative to achieve science based policies and their actual inforcement, as well as to promote alternative solutions towards zero waste
iSea focuses on monitoring the abundance of litter and microplastics, identifying their types, abundance and potential sources of origin across the country in collaboration with scientific bodies and other entities. In addition, it informs targeted stakeholder groups and local communities about the impact of aquatic litter, current policies around it, and promotes good practices for marine litter waste prevention and mitigation, through awareness raising activities, but also through mobilization and active participation of the local communities
