Description
Every citizen can participate in data collection and scientific research through Citizen Science, contributing significantly to the knowledge and protection of the natural environment, while simultaneously enjoying nature. New technologies and online platforms are valuable tools that enhance collaboration between citizens, nature enthusiasts and scientists, facilitating public participation in science. Through this process, Citizen Scientists engage meaningfully with the natural environment, acquire new knowledge, and develop interest in nature and biodiversity-related issues.
As part of the “Thermaikos Biodiversity Project”, participants have the opportunity to explore marine biodiversity in shallow waters through snorkelling underwater trails. They are first informed about local biodiversity and then have the chance to observe it underwater! In addition, they are introduced to the iNaturalistCitizen Science platform and learn how to upload the data they collect, inviting them to become members of the largest global community of nature enthusiasts.
